Gaborone turns into int'l sporting arena

The Botswana sports landscape is set to become an international arena in the next two years following an announcement of numerous high profile games and events scheduled for Gaborone.

Some of these events include the World Congress of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation 2017, the Netball World Youth Cup (2017) and the IWG 2018 Congress. “I am happy to report that the Botswana Softball Association (BSA) has won the bid to host the World Congress of the Baseball and Softball Confederation in 2017,” said the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) chairman Solly Reikeletseng.

Reikeletseng was officiating at the first BNSC Special General Meeting in Gaborone recently. He said that this event was a big opportunity to host the Baseball division and the Softball division as well as the mother-body of both sport codes. Moreover, Reikeletseng said Botswana has since signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Netball 2017 World Youth Cup 2017, with the International Netball Federation.

“This is in readiness for the signing of the Hosting Contract which is being finalised. We look forward to the Netball event as it will be the first ever sport event at world level that we have hosted.”

Reikeletseng said preparations for hosting of the IWG 2018 Congress are ongoing. “We have since launched the HeForShe programme that promotes involvement of men in fighting discrimination.

You are welcome to ensure that gender mainstreaming initiatives become part of your normal business operations as well as a sign to show commitment to the cause.”
