MMP Family set to sweep stakes at 2nd YAMA's

The winners of the second edition of the Yarona FM Music awards (YAMA’s) will be unveiled this Saturday at the GICC.

The awards seek to recognise excelling artists whose music set the airwaves on fire this year, and reward them for their hard work. Having set the bar very high in the first year, and scoring a number of achievements, one can only look forward to a dazzling night that will be reminiscent of Hollywood right here in Gaborone.

From performances on the night, mostly local, as well as the artists coming out dressed in their best Christmas attires, the second edition has a lot in store for those who will make it to GICC on Saturday evening. Something worth noting, and that has had everyone on the edge of their seats is whether the darling boys of Kwaito, MMP will emerge victorious in the category of Song of the Year.

It is something unheard of, to find a group that has two songs competing against each other. MMP Family comprises of members Mothusi Jackalas (P-les), Tebogo Baipidi (Mzicho) and Modiri Nage (M.O.D). Two of their singles from their second album titled Lesson 1, namely Mogolo lapeng & Lebala ka nna are up against Kopisa by Gaone.

The fact that they have two songs in this category already gives them an edge over Gaone, and they might possibly walk away with this award. The trio also has another nomination in the Best Kwaito Single for their single, Lebala Ka nna, alongside Amandados with Attention, Eskimos with Cecilia featuring (Jujuboy) and Franix with They can say.

Another hotly contested category is the Artist of the Year Award. This category sees crème de la crème of Botswana’s music battling it out for the honours. Nominees in the category include La Timmy, ATI, Gaone, MMP Family, DJ Kuchi, Eskimos as well as Dr Tawanda, and one thing is for sure, whoever the public picks through the public voting lines will be worthy of that award.

Other nominees on the night who might possibly walk away with awards include Gaone and ATI. ATI also has another nomination in the category Best Single Male for his single Kaching, alongside Kast with Jealous, Epic with Respect Boi, and Chrome with No track ya summer.

Gaone, a newcomer who promises to givew other artists a run for their money also has another nomination in the category for Best Dance Female, with artists that include Chef Gustos with Come, DJ Anthem with Keresiya and DJ Gouveia with Ambuye.

The Kopisa hit maker also has another nomination in the category of Best Newcomer alongside newcomers that include Chef Gustos, Licky and Romeo Stunner.
