Testify honours church girls in song

Christian singer and ‘Motsotsonyana’ hit maker, Testify, has released a new single track titled, Church Girl. The R’n’B influenced track is not only catchy but also different from his previous songs. The song has already set tongues wagging on social media and has even received airplay on Gabz FM.

Testify says that he wanted to do something different after the success of his popular album, Testimony Chapter 1 but insists that he is still a gospel artist who dabbles in other genres. “ Everyone is doing rap these days, therefore the genre is just similar throughout the local artists. I wanted to give my fans something new this time around, because I believe that we should explore this career and give our fans more than what they expect of us,” he says.

Testify explains that Church Girl is meant to appreciate girls who religiously go to church. I wanted to appreciate the being of the church girls because I believe that they somehow build the nation and even at a lower risk of finding themselves in difficult situations that an ordinary girl out there may face. A lot of church girls are humble and spend a lot of time at church praising the Lord and working for the church,” he says. He says that life of fellowship is better because one gets discipline and is reminded to keep on the straight and narrow, and avoid falling victim to being drugged, raped, having unwanted pregnancies and illegal abortions, among other challenges.

He also says that he also wanted to prove that one could use both rap and R’n’B to create clean good music.  “People always sing about drugs so through this song I wanted to encourage my sisters because we do not want to see good girls turning into bad girls,” he says. Church Girl was recorded at Drumsonic Studio and the video will be released soon.

Testify also says that he ended up creating an R’n’B-gospel track to show that he is multi-talented. He also laments that there are limited opportunities for gospel artists in Botswana. “As gospel artists in Botswana we are not given similar opportunities compared to other artists, which is quite unfair.

For example, we cannot showcase our talent on some youthful shows like Flava Dome which airs on Friday during prime time but are instead restricted to shows like Melodi Ya Kgalaletso which airs on Sundays when a lot of people are at church or do not have time to watch television,” he says. Testify says that his new album will have notable influences of hip-hop, rap and R’n’B. Going forward, the versatile crooner says that he wants to reach greater heights in the music industry
