Triple R makes a comeback
Renowned traditional music and comedy group Triple R is back with a bang. Triple R, made of popular characters Rra Mozara, Rra Monyai and Rra Monyaku, endeared themselves to Batswana with their catchy music and rib cracking comedy short dramas. One member of the group, Rra Monyai has been busy in Klerksdorp, South Africa. He is the brain behind the traditional group, Kopano ke matla, which he worked closely with from its inception.
The group is currently promoting its development album Dinonyane, which was nominated in the South Africa Traditional Music Awards (SATMAs) in 2016 and 2017. The group took part in the Grahamstown Arts Festival in July earlier this year.
The group also has junior categories for children aged 7-10, those in the 13 and 16 age bracket and those who are above 16 years old. Rra Monyaku will travel with the group to Kuruman on September 5 this year and to Lesotho on September 10 where the group will perform at culture festivals. In an interview with Vibe, Rra Monyaku quashed rumours that Triple R had split. “We are still together.
We were just taking a break. We are now working on our new album,” he said. He said that the new album, to be released before the end of the year, would be accompanied by a DVD with their usual comedy skits, which he said are popular among many Batswana. On the 26th of August 21, 2017 the group will perform at the Sefalana customer day, while they will grace the Mahalapye Culture Day on September, 2, 2017. The group members are also spearheading the Tswapong Festival Unity Cup slated for December. “We wanted to give back to the community because there are a lot of people in need around the area. That is when we came together to conceptualise this festival,” the group members noted.
The festival has already received a boost from a sponsor named Unopa Mabangwa who has donated football kits. They said that they expect more people to come on board as time goes by. The festival will attract football teams from area villages such as Rasesa/Tumasera, Chadibe/Seleka, Ngwapha and Mosopha villages, among others. They stated that all proceeds - in the form of gate takings and pledges- would go towards underprivileged families identified in the region. They will also collect food, clothes and other items that people might want to give away.To get involved with Tswapong Festival Unity Cup or get more information, call 741 386 85.
