Sereetsi- self made artist
Tomeletso Sereetsi of Sereetsi and The Natives is a self made artist, a poet, author and guitarist. He joined the music industry by putting out his First Album Sereetsi and The Natives in May 2015.
Sereetsi says in 2015 there were a number of great songs. However, among others he liked the song Sekuta and Hardrock by Charma Gal as well as the song from his own album Four String Confessions song Robete and Thaa Kokome. Sereetsi said these were the big songs of 2015; he believes they will still perform better in 2016.
He said the Hardrock song is nice and catchy in the sense that Charma Gal talks about what happened in her life. He likes how the message is presented and it does well as it is fresh. It mixes both Kwasakwasa and Mbaqanga which brings out nice music, and nobody ever thought they can mix. Sereetsi says the song is full of influence as Charma Gal sings the same way she did at Culture Spears and the rhythm is catchy.
From his own album the song Robete is the favourite; it is about a controversial issue of homosexuality, He was surprised by how people have taken and loved the song despite the fact that the issue is very controversial, He says the song gives us as Batswana the opportunity to look at ourselves.
There were other several songs that were interesting like Semunyamunya which is sang in Kalanga. Semunyamunya is a love song and it is great in the sense that it is sang in a different language which is seen as a minority in our country and it is something that should happen more often for people to sing in their own native language including other languages.
According to Sereetsi this really adds value to music. He describes his recent performance in South Africa as a great outing that was impressive. They are expecting to go back to South Africa soon as they have created a bit of demand. Sereetsi encourages more Batswana to believe very much in themselves which will help them to produce more quality work and the boldness to follow other convictions.
