Shay drops smashing new single, Bala Bala

Hip-Hop enthusiast and rapper Motswasejane Phongula Dinonyane also known as ‘Shay’ joined forces with his friend and fellow rapper Junior to bring another smash track to Botswana’s airwaves titled Bala Bala. Shay noted that the single speaks to the “noise” he has been hearing around the hip-hop genre of late. “Being a (hip-hop) purist, this has both hurt and annoyed me and I felt something must be said or done. I would like for the local (hip-hop) scene to get back to rapping as that was and still should be what BW Hip Hop is known for.

The song speaks to all those watering down and butchering the art form I have been in love with for more years than I care to remember,” he said. Having worked on his solo project for the past year, Shay is poised to release a collage of music, which has seen him collaborate across different genres. Some of the names he features on the project are, Mpho Sebina, Zuziwe Mavuma, Snubby Nub, Mix’Loso, The Black Bowties, Junior and Blain to name few.

Shay has been rapping since the age of 10. He has been a member of a few groups over the years such as Youngcanny Sess AKA Sess Kids, which was the brother group to the Uncanny Sessmen, which comprised of respected local rappers. He later partnered with Blain to form the rap duo Blain and Shay, to release a mixtape dubbed Favorite Strangers in 2011.

Their lead and hit single Victory Lap, to date still enjoys airplay on local radio stations. The Victory Lap hitmaker, dedicated the last few years to working on his solo project titled OK The EP, contributing to his peers’ projects and recording songs with a bunch of local artists. Shay noted that he needed to rediscover who he was , as an artiste. “I feel with the project I have recorded, I am well on my way to self-discovery, at least as far as my music is concerned,” he said. Shay grown from strength to strength and he is ready to deliver another hit single.
