A dancer's fleeting dream
Lone Motsomi has been admitted into an intense training dance programme in Denmark at the International Dance Academy (IDA) in Copenhagen.
But in order to be able to live her dream and train with the best dancers of the world, Lone has to raise P250 000.00. The programme starts in September and time is not on her side. Besides honing her craft in Copenhagen, Lone intends to participate in a programme that will see her training further in Hollywood, Los Angeles (USA) where together with other students she will be drilled by world acclaimed choreographers and teachers.
She has had sleepless nights but still remains optimistic that someone somehow might come to her rescue. And as the days go by, she alongside her mentor, Mother Masire is exploring all possible options. “I haven’t given up yet,” she says summing up her feelings as days turn into weeks and it seems like destiny is playing tricks with her.
In the unlikely event that she is unable to make it to Europe, she is exploring options such as applying at the Moving Into Dance Academy in South Africa. The programme requires fewer resources as compared to the European opportunity. And she has applied for the 2017/2018 programme in Denmark. “They still need more learners,” she explains. “I am not about to give up on my dream,” she adds. A protégé of Mophato Dance Theatre, her goal is to come back and inspire others to follow their dreams.
