Ban T collaborates with SA artists on Naomi remix

It looks like Baanthata ‘BanT’ Mokgwathi’s star keeps soaring higher and higher. The hip hop star who has been nominated in seven categories of the Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMA) 2016, has collaborated with South African artists, Benn Kamoto, known as ‘Gemini Major’ and Tshegofatso ‘Tshego’ Ketshabile, on the remix of his hit song, ‘Naomi.’ The media were invited to a listening session at the Pavilion bar on Wednesday afternoon last week and left those in attendance tapping their feet and nodding their heads.

Both Ketshabile and Gemini Major are signed under South African record label, Family Tree Records, which is owned by Cassper Nyovest. The SA duo are no newcomers to the music industry. Ketshabile released his project “Since 1990”, digitally for free in 2014. He has also appeared on Cassper Nyovest’s Platinum selling album “Tsholofelo” on the track “Cold Hearted” as well as his song, ‘a lot to live for.’ Gemini Major has produced for a number of artists in a variety of genres ranging from R&B, hip-hop, house, dancehall, pop and gospel. His portfolio includes production used in TV Shows such as Gold Diggers Season 3, Forever Young and Mo Love. Gemini has appeared on songs alongside Khuli Chana and African legend 2 Face.

Although Gemini Major was not present, Ketshabile and BanT each spoke about how they enjoyed working with each other to come up with the remix. Both confessed to being perfectionists who kept sending the track back and forth to each other and the producers until they were satisfied with the final product. BanT was slated to perform the following day at Monte Cristo that had played a part as a launch pad for artists such as Emtee and Fifi Cooper.

Also present at the event was Odirile ‘Vee’ Sento who told of how he had to learn the hard way the importance of collaborating with other artists. He recalled how when he travelled to Dallas in the United States for the AFRIMMA awards he expressed his desire to work with Nigerian artist, David Adeleke aka Davido but a stumbling block was the fact that he did not have any experience when it comes to collaborations.

“I told him and his manager that I would send them my portfolio and literally ran home, took out all my savings and put in place plans that would see me collaborating with international artists,” he said.
