Voice of Change officially launched

A Christian youth group, Voice of Change (VoC) was recently launched in Gaborone. The group will be an umbrella for gospel music, dance, poetry and motivational speaking, with the main aim of empowering youth and spreading the word of God.

Co-founder and President of VoC Lunga Kgosikoma said they decided to come together as a group of young Christians to inspire and motivate young people. The group was established in 2015 but Kgosikoma says they felt that this was the ripe time to take VoC to Batswana.

Speaking in an interview with Vibe, the charismatic leader explained that the name came as an inspiration from God. “Voice of Change is here to stay; we aim to build up young talent and to prepare it for a better platform locally and internationally. This come after realizing that there is too much talent in the church and Batswana have talent and I want to do more to cultivate the talent,” he said.

The group presented some of their original compositions during the launch including O filwe - by Gilbert Vissagie, O Morena waaka and Ke mang -By Ontlametse Kenneth Serapo, O Setshabelo - by Daphne Nono Tseleng,  Sovereign God - by Daphne Nono Tseleng, I have travelled near and far- Gideon Binang as well as You are my everything- Gideon Binang.

Kgosikoma said that they also re-arranged pieces of some of the common gospel songs like; Ka Mengwaha, Jeso Rato Lahao , Joko yahao and  Bokang Modimo - led by Bokamoso Morwaagae. He noted that the group, which consists of multi-talented singers, is focused on promoting gospel music and take the genre to greater heights. “Each member in the team has the responsibility to compose a piece and make it perfect,” he said.

VoC has 18 vocalists, six musicians, four board members who are the general overseers of the group and three members in the Welfare Committee who look at the interest of the band including their clothes and food. “The group is for young Christians aged between 21 and 30. We chose this age range because while they are adults and expected to be responsible, they also don’t have busy lives as they are still trying to figure out what they can do in life. We need people who are very committed.

We also believe that young people who are talented should be nurtured and supported from the onset,” he said. The group only accepts Christians. However, during shows, he says they give non-Christians tickets as a ways of reaching out to them and sharing the Gospel with them. Kgosikoma admits that financing is a challenge but they are not letting it affect them. “We have a challenge of limited funds but this will not make us give up on this wonderful project. We are working hard to achieve our dream. Actually, we are living our dream,” he said.
