Ghetto rapper C-RU drops banging single Mahempe
Francistown based rapper C-RU has dropped yet another slamming single titled Mahempe. The single will appeal to Motswako fans and make them bop to the tune when it plays. In an interview with Vibe, C-RU pointed out that Mahempe has nothing to do with Msakazo or Mbaqanga as most local fans are aware that there is a Msakaso artist known as Mahempe. He noted out that his single is strictly hip hop Motswako music. Born Gaenelwe Glen Lekula, C-RU said that he did not have much interest in music until he was 16. “It was only in my teens when I started writing songs and then develped interest in playing the piano, something which came in handy in my career,” he said. He dropped his first single Thupa tse Molelo in 2013, and it went on to do very well in the local market. Before his solo career, the married father of two boys, was a member of a Motswako group called Los Crazy Boys which performed at big musical shows by then including the much acclaimed Togetherness festival, Dzalobana and Orange 555 Monyaka. “These experiences gave me the much needed promotional space before I went solo,” he said. In 2014, the music bug had bit him and he went on to release two subsequent singles Mshimane and Hard Knock, which also did well in the market, in the process giving him the platform to shine as he went on to collaborate with local hip hop heavyweights including Apollo D, Python, HT Tautona, Noello, Mello and King ZI, among others. As a solo artist, C-RU has performed at My African dream, Maitisong Festival, Kanyi KO zipa and Toropo ya muka.
