Kgosi Odirile Pema of Maisane in the Southern district says he is concerned about ill-disciplined youth in his area. He was speaking in an interview with The Midweek Sun last Saturday at the donation ceremony held by AAP Home Based Care for Mosamowakwena Primary School. Kgosi Pema said that young people in his settlement of around 700 population abuse alcohol, especially Chibuku and Khadi. He said that he has made efforts to keep order several times but to no avail. “As a result of taking too much alcohol, they end up in fights and some even stealing,” he said. The traditional leader is also worried about stock theft in his area, adding that the thieves are merciless as they have a habit of insulting his emissaries when they confront them over the crime. As a result the chief said they held a workshop with KgomoKhumo crew and residents to sensitise on stock theft last week Thursday. “Most of these thieves are Maisane residents. I hope the intervention of the police will assist,” he said. Kgosi Pema said there was chaos in the settlement because of the high unemployment. He said the youth and elders fight over space at Ipelegeng. He also revealed that they do not have water in Maisane and that Water Utilities Corporation can go up to three weeks without coming to fill up their Jojo tanks. There is only a primary school with 193 students, and they go to Molapowabojang and Lotlhakane for secondary education. The settlement has a small health post where health workers come once a month from Molapowabojang to weigh children. For health services, they go to Molapowabojang and Lotlhakane. There is no electricity in the settlement, except in the school.
