Search continues for Gaborone Dam fishermen
Over a week later, Police and Botswana Defence Force scuba divers have this week continued in their intensive search for two fishermen who went missing at the Gaborone Dam on Sunday 17th of July 2022.
There are fears that the duo may have drowned. Acting Officer Commanding No. 13 District Superintendent Joubert Kome said the two men aged 31 and 34 years from Old Naledi were apparently on a fishing expedition at the dam, and when they did not return home, their relatives reported them missing on Sunday night and the search started on Monday morning.
“Upon arrival at the dam, the Police and the BDF crew found the boat belonging to the duo in the water and they removed it and the search started,” Kome recited.
Kome, who warned against fishing at the dam especially by people who can't swim, said although incidences of people drowning at the dam have been reported in the past, this particular incident was the first since the beginning of the year.
He said that the search continues and they are hoping for the best. Meanwhile, some of the family members of the victims could not say anything but hoped that the bodies of their loved ones would be found.
