BFA, Gaolaolwe make up
Botswana Football Association (BFA) Chief Executive Officer, Mfolo Mfolo says differences between them and one of the finest defenders of this country, Mosha (Fanta) Gaolaolwe have amicably been resolved. Allegations making rounds suggested that Gaolaolwe has been in BFA’s bad books because he (Gaolaolwe) had misbehaved during the Botswana 2018 independence game against Namibia. Sources at BFA told Sun Sport that BFA accused the player of verbally abusing the association president Maclean Letshwiti and allegedly influenced other players to strike over unpaid allowances. The BFA this past week is said to have summoned Gaolaolwe to Lekidi offices together with his club (Township Rollers) team manager, Motshegetsi Mafa. However, details of what was discussed behind closed doors remain unknown. When reached, Mfolo, who was present at the said meeting, explained that he could not go into details about what was discussed with the player but said the matter was now water under the bridge. He would then add that all national team players must subscribe to the national team code of conduct. The BFA CEO went on to explain that their players are still young and once in a while when they are out of line, it is within the rights of BFA to sit them down and restore order. “When these players meet others in groups, sinister mob issues crop up,” he said. Mfolo explained that when one is a national team player, they need to keep check of what is right and wrong because they are now in the limelight and exposed to international sphere unlike at club level. Quizzed on whether he was admitting that Gaolaolwe had at one point misbehaved, Mfolo said that he was not linking the player to whatever allegations were being made. Meanwhile, allegations suggested that it was under these circumstances that Gaolaolwe found himself left out of the national squad when Botswana played Angola and Seychelles recently. “A lot of things go into picking a line up for the national team, the coach does not only look at performance but I believe he used a holistic approach to the matter. We had no influence or whatsoever in his decision nor ever victimized Gaolaolwe for any crime committed,” Mfolo said. Gaolaolwe, when contacted, said he was in no position to speak to the media about the matter. Meanwhile, Gaolaolwe is expected to join South African based side of TS Galaxy in June. The player’s transfer failed to materialize early this year.
