Okavango Delta Music Festical inaugurates
The inaugural Okavango Delta Music Festival is slated to take place on August 31st - September 1st in the islands of Tsutsubega, 27 kilometres from Maun.
The event has a bit of everything for everyone seeking different entertainment thrills. Judging by what organisers have put together, this is one festival spectacular that revellers do not wish to miss. Themed camps, swimming pools, aerial yoga, kiddies camp activities and lots more are just some of the activities that revellers can look forward to during the three-day extravaganza.
Music wise, revellers will be treated to music from acts such as Kabo Leburu, Stiga Sola, Richard Marshall, Bruno Morphet, Dan Tempo, The Kickstands, Black Mamba, Soul connect, Gloucester Blues Project, Flying Bantu, Gerard Clark, So Kindly, and the Djembe Monks.
First things first, organisers are encouraging revellers to desist from attempting to engage in self driving unless they have a 4x4. The festival takes place on an island, they advise.
“The flood water is in and there are two deep water crossings to get to the Festival Island. As stated on the website and all our info, the road is passable with a 4x4 but nothing less. Game drive vehicle shuttles will be running from the Tshilli Cafe every hour on the hour from Thursday to Monday to get you in and out and also you can book a helicopter shuttle in too,” states the organisers.
The organisers also highlight that Broadband Botswana Internet - BBi / Wireless at Home are co-sponsoring The Okavango Delta Music Festival by providing a beautiful media lounge and wifi themed camp. This means that festival-goers and the media will now have access to wifi on the island.
Camping can be booked - all inclusive with spacious tents, comfy bedrolls, and ablutions. However, they point out that there is an option of bringing your own tent and camp; there will be ablutions provided with hot water for showers. Other highlights to look forward to include themed camps offering pop up food and bars including but not limited to Capello pizza and Cocktail bar led by the owner Lesego Busang; a boutique Gin bar for the Gin lovers, wine tasting, a main festival bar sponsored by KBL, Drifter Brewing Company Craft Beer.
Drifter is a microbrewery from Cape Town; Kwa ga Ncinci food, Health Generation Juices; Aquarite offering drinking water and ice, slush-puppies and pink lemonade. Liyibo cafe, Lenste traditional food will all be there to feed you and more. As for parents and caretakers who are wondering about what to do with the little ones, this is a family inclusive festival, state the organizers. And there is a dedicated children’s camp led by Camp Botswana, so no need to worry about the children as they have their own fun on nature trails, games, sports and crafts.
In the meantime, for some people, three days of dancing can throw them off balance, so The Yoga Lily Tent will be offering Aerial Yoga!
“Do not forget to bring your mat if Yoga is your thing or from curiosity you would like to try it out,” state the organizers. Furthermore, bearing in mind that Maun heat can be so unforgiving, there is a swimming spot to cool off which is sponsored by Shumba Plant Hire. “Oh yes we are going to have a beach in Tsutsubega! The local community will also be offering mekoro trips for leisure rides along the flood plain to enjoy the beautiful vista”. And most importantly, the Tsutsubega community is getting something out of the event.
“The proceeds from the festival this year will go towards providing clean drinking water for the community in an effort to uplift their lives with the most basic needs that the rest of us take for granted,” explains the organizers.
