Police still hunting for stolen ammunition
The police are yet to recover the weapons of war that were stolen at Goodhope police Station last week Tuesday.
According to Police Spokesperson Near Bagali, all 13 rifles, five pistols, and other ammunition are yet to be recovered.
This is despite the Police arresting two Batswana men, Leatile Kingsley Modise (25) and Isaac Tshepiso Molale (35) in connection with the robbery.
The two men appeared before Lobatse Magistrate Court this past Tuesday and were remanded in custody.
“We believe the suspects we have in custody will help us locate the thieves. We believe that this was a job of a syndicate and we are now casting the net wide to include international search,” Bagali said.
It is suspected that the robbery was a joint initiative by locals and foreigners. Police do not rule out the possibilities that the weapons might already be outside the country by now.
Bagali explained that given the many days that have already passed without recovering the stolen items, the situation is very precarious.
“Those weapons are in the wrong hands and we are taking this matter with the seriousness it deserves. We have assembled a strong investigation team because we believe the weapons might be used anytime in criminal activities,” he said.
He dismissed suspicions that the robbery was an inside job, saying the police security is watertight and what happened was just an unfortunate incident.
“Our policemen have been trained; they were traumatised but are okay now. They know that such happens, what happened is what they attend to on a daily basis.”
The police boss encourages Batswana to bring forth any tangible information that could lead to the arrest of other suspects. The P100 000 reward is still up for grabs.
However, he warned that money should not be the only motivating factor in assisting the police with information. Batswana, he said, should also take responsibility and help curb crime.
He expressed confidence that in the near future, the police would have made a major breakthrough in the case.
