Local darts team competes in SA
Botswana Darts Associations (BDA) is expected to send the under 13 and under 18 national teams to South Africa for the 4th biannual region 5 youth tournament.
This week, the BDA public relations officer Neo Badubi said the U13-15 team brought home gold for the past 3 years, while U16-18 won other medals. Badubi pointed out that the BDA leadership has been engaged in a campaign to teach the public that darts are no longer bar activity but a sport. Botswana has over the past few years dominated the regional tournaments albeit with little success at international level. Darts is one of the few codes to have been established and promoted by disciplined forces.
Youthful players based in the northern part of the country dominated the local competition over the years because the program coordinators are both based in this part of the country. “We are not a bar code, we are a sport code,” said the BDA mouthpiece. BDA tournament director Ben Tshaba Moilwe and youth coordinator Machena Robert will accompany the team as coaches. The tournament is scheduled from 5th to 8th September in Germiston, South Africa. Badubi said since taking office their main agenda has been to make the sport popular among Batswana.
