Earlier this week, the trailblazing Mophato Dance Theatre jetted off to the United States of America where they are expected to perform at the internationally acclaimed Battery Dance Festival.

The festival that is held over six days is in its 36th year running this year. The international group was expected to set the stage ablaze with one of their pieces yesterday (Thursday). The event is held at the Robert F.Wagner Jr. Park in New York.

The Battery Dance Festival is one of the many platforms where the contemporary dance gurus continue to fly the flag of the country high. Other groups that have been invited to perform at the festival include Danuka Ariyawansa and Behri Drums and Dance Ensemble (Sri Lanka), Bollycious (Belgium).

During the six days of the festival, there will be other local groups that form part of the line-up such as the Janis Brenner & Dancers, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company and Battery Dance.

Battery Dance Festival is one of the festivals where every performer and dancer wishes to see themselves performing. Bringing together some of the celebrated performers, this is one avenue that over the years has opened doors to those who know how to make their bodies do the impossible.

Having recently set Berlin during the ITB event ablaze with their thrilling dance moves with a piece titled I Love Botswana, one thing is for sure, the Afro fusion group is not one for misusing opportunities. And one can bet that New York and the world is not ready to see what the local outfit has in store for them.
