Married women’s beauty pageant debuts Oct. 14
This October 14 finalists will take to the stage at the inaugural one of a kind M.R.S (Married, Remarkable, Sophisticated) Botswana beauty pageant.
The pageant is open to any woman who is married and unlike other beauty pageants, it does not have any other requirements such as height, and age specifications. The lucky woman who will walk away with the title will be sent to China in December where she will represent Botswana in the competition for MRS GLOBE title with other married women globally, sharing and gaining different experiences, motivation and inspiration from them.
The title holder will also facilitate relevant trainings for families in Botswana under Rock Solid Families Botswana to boost the family lifestyle we currently have in this country. M.R.S Botswana is affiliated to MRS Global, and African countries that have already sent delegates to the international gathering including Zambia, Namibia and South Africa. According to the founder of the event, Kgalalelo Lesetedi, the concept seeks to help in building families. She says that currently in Botswana, one of the challenges facing married couples is the shortage of platforms for entertainment and counseling.
One of the challenges facing couples together is how to stay together for a long time, and also there is need for counseling before and after a wedding. “We also have challenges such as marriage wreckers and how to deal with them,” she says. Another issue facing couples locally is that their marriage certificates are just copies instead of certificates as is the case in other countries.
In the past, she explains that they have hosted events such as a High Tea for women and families, where speakers discussed how to balance life at home with careers. Other events that they have hosted include married couples’ seminar where renowned speakers Ntombi Setshwaelo, Nelson Letshwene and Adrian Khumalo Mpofu made presentations on various topics, as well as Commemoration of International day for families. Lesetedi is a married mother of two girls, and an entrepreneur and advocate for happy marriages, happy families and kids, an accountant by profession, a certified Parenting Leader and holds the MRS Botswana Globe Director title. From her love and passion for happy families, Lesetedi has also attended different trainings on Marriage & family, Handling conflict, Communication and Children. She has experience from organising and participating in beauty pageants, and she registered the Married Remarkable Sophisticated Botswana after finding that most contests discriminate against married women especially with kids.
