BNSC on autopilot ...as umbrella sports body continues to run without a board
After a prolonged absence of nearly a month, the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture has assured the public that an announcement regarding the appointment of the new Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) board is forthcoming.
The highly anticipated announcement of BNSC board, which is the responsibility of the Minister of Youth, Sport, and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare, is reportedly about to happen. According to sources within the Ministry, the vetting process for the potential board members has been completed, and only a few minor details remain before the appointments can be made public. Maintaining an air of secrecy and conspiracy surrounding the impending announcement, the Ministry declined to offer any insight into the identities of the individuals selected for the BNSC board, preferring to keep this information under wraps until the official reveal. However, the Ministry assured the public that the unveiling of the new board will be any moment from now.
The previous BNSC board, led by Chairman Marumo Morule, reached the expiration of its term in December of last year, triggering a three-month extension to allow the board to continue fulfilling its duties until a new board could be appointed. However, this three-month extension has elapsed and the BNSC has been operating for an entire month without a board. Speaking to BG SPORT recently, BNSC CEO Tuelo Serufho confirmed that the organization is currently operating without a board. Serufho emphasized that the responsibility for the appointment of the new board rests exactly with the Ministry, which is tasked with overseeing the appointment process.
According to Serufho, the BNSC itself remains in the dark regarding the composition of the new board and has not been apprised of any details pertaining to the appointment.
The BNSC is busy preparing for the 43rd prestigious Botswana Sport Awards, scheduled to take place on May 18th. The award honors the nation's most exceptional athletes and sporting figures.
