Hands off Miss World contestants - Chombo family
The parents to the reigning Miss World Africa, Lesego Chombo, have called on Batswana to desist from cyberbullying other contestants as Lesego Chombo did not return from the competition empty-handed.
Speaking to The Midweek Sun after they landed in Botswana from India, Chombo’s father, Othusitse Chombo explained that they are very elated about how far their daughter went in the competition.
He noted that this is God's doing and people should desist from abusing Miss World organisers and the other contestants.
He explained that even though Batswana are fighting other people online and being disrespectful, Lesego is elated about the position that she scooped. Chombo senior urged Batswana to be peaceful just as the nation of Botswana is known for peace.
Meanwhile, Lesego’s father has urged parents to support their children in their endeavours, and further called on children themselves to understand that their parents want the best for them. He said, when this happens, children grow up to be the shining light they ought to be.
Young people must not look down on themselves but believe fully that they are good enough, he advised.
Lesego’s older sister, Kate Chombo said Lesego is a strong person but they had initially thought she would have a tough time accepting the results.
“She is a very strong woman, stronger than we knew,” Kate said, adding that currently Lesego is calm and she fully trusts God to lead her to greener pastures.
She revealed that Lesego believes that if God wanted her to wear the crown, she would have won the competition. Moreover, Kate said that Lesego looks up to the future with optimism.
