No arrests yet in Masire's mysterious murder
Police in Kanye are intensifying the search for the killers of 86-year-old Ephraim Kabo Masire, who was strangled to death on Monday 4th February at his well-secured residence in Goo Motebejane ward in Kanye.
Masire, who was former president Sir Ketumile Masire’s uncle (Rangwane) was found dead with a wound on his head suggesting he had been hit with a stone.
All of Kabo Masire’s belongings, including two shotguns stored inside the house where he was found, remained intact, a clear indication that this was not a robbery.
A close family relative told The Midweek Sun that the post mortem report has returned a verdict of death by strangulation.
Speaking to The Midweek Sun this week, the Officer Commanding, No.14 District, Superintendent Banneetse Keakile, confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing but they have not made any arrests yet.
The late Ephraim Kabo Masire, a man known for his substantial wealth, was laid to rest in Kanye this past weekend.
During a memorial service in his honour at James Good Church, mourners described him as a devout man with a deep love for church and prayer.
It was even disclosed that the father of three had attended church the last Sunday before his mysterious death.
They said he would even engage in fasting and intercession despite his advanced age. Masire was also described as a generous contributor to the church, often donating high quality livestock and financial resources.
Nkgopolang Ntereke, one of the speakers at the service, fondly described Masire as a serene individual who dedicated himself to the growth and development of the church.
It was explained that Masire had been the last surviving member of his family’s lineage, after losing his only sister in 2021.
Ward Headman of Arbitration, Motswakgakala Sealetsa, expressed shock at Masire’s death expressing concern at the prevalence of criminal activities in the area.
'We are living in fear, we have even left our farms to live in the village, believing it is safer. This shows that anyone could be killed at any time.
“I hope the suspects responsible for killing this innocent old man will be arrested soon,' Sealetsa said.
