New party's SG says she's been fired
Cracks are starting to show in the newly-formed political party Botswana Republican Party (BRP) as its Secretary General (SG) Mmasechaba Mokone says she has been fired.
According to Mokone the foundation has been faulty from the start and it was evident to her that the top helm of the party is lacking in terms of governance and democracy. But, as the SG she tried her best to ensure that the party continues to run smoothly and appears as a viable option to voters.
She explained that the rift between her and the top brass of the party became evident at the second meeting of the BRP which was a virtual meeting when she made a presentation about the party’s future plans.
She said the matter was something to do with empowering members in the Masunga area. However, it seemed that Master Goya the Vice President of the party already had other plans for the event.
Mokone revealed that the treasurer of the party had previously called her and told her that they would oversee the launch of the party. However, Mokone questioned this decision because the party leadership had not taken a decision on the matter yet.
When she questioned the party president, Biggie Butale on the matter, he told her that there are certain decisions that he and the VP make outside of party structures.
As the back and forth continued over who will lead the launch of the party in Masunga, Mokone says the BRP president Butale lashed out asking who the hell does she think she is, and that he is nominating the party’s VP to run the launch of the party.
Mokone said that she reminded the leadership that that is not how things are run in political parties and she has been doing these things but her argument fell on deaf ears as she was fired on the spot.
Mokone said after this it became evident to her that these party meetings are a proxy to cover up for decisions made by Goya and Butale at Wimpy yet she is aggrieved because that is not how a political party is run.
Mokone says that Butale and Goya must acquaint themselves with the constitution of the party as she has never asked for anything above it.
Her desire is for the top brass to seek professional help especially the VP on what she terms as;
“Inhumane and strange appetite for power”. Mokone said that the duo must acquaint itself with the constitution as the bosses of the party are the masses
However, BRP President, Butale said that it is news to them to hear that the SG of their party has been removed from her position.
“The Secretary General of the BRP has not been fired and there's no reason why she should be fired,” Butale explained.
He said that there are no major decisions that have been taken without consultation and in fact consultation is embedded in the way of running the party and it is also within the very DNA of the Party leadership.
'No one is above the Party Constitution including the SG,' Butale exclaimed.
He noted that there is no crisis within the BRP and they are busy with preparations for the launch of the party in due course.
“We abide by the Party Constitution and it is our Bible that provides guidance on how we run our Party. There's a lot that we have to put in place and we have an interim structure that is running the party affairs until we go for our first Congress,” Butale said.
He wondered why they would elect a new SG when they have one. He said that the founding SG is in office and working with other Exco members preparing for the Party launch and General Elections, and he revealed that the SG has been in official communication with them about party issues with no sign of animosity.
