The newly-formed Botswana Republican Party (BRP) promises to build a third city for Batswana if they win the upcoming general elections.

At a press briefing this Tuesday, the party which was formed by former member of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and later founder of Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) Biggie Ganda Butale, announced that building a

third city is one of the main goals outlined in their soon to be launched manifesto.

Butale said that salary and pension increases are no longer the most pressing issues in Botswana. Instead, the focus should be on making the country wealthier. He believes that a new 'green city' powered by solar energy, to be built in the western part of the country, would help achieve this goal.

“Our plan is to build a new planned capital city that will be powered by solar. The green city would use the sun's energy because Botswana has a lot of sunlight,” Butale said. The city would be constructed if the party wins the elections.

Butale emphasised to the media that his party's focus is on good governance. If elected, they will ensure that the right people are employed for the right jobs. This includes attracting foreign direct investment, developing the right skills, and ensuring a well-managed immigration system. The party believes that these factors are essential for the country's continued growth and development.

In an era where women's empowerment is a major focus, the party has confirmed to The Midweek Sun that at least five women have expressed interest in running for this year's parliamentary elections. This is a sign for the advancement of women in politics and leadership. The party has made it clear that they are committed to supporting and promoting women's rights and opportunities.
