Renowned local artiste, Dato Seiko, who is currently in Aburi, Ghana for a music writing camp says this opportunity places the local industry on the map and she looks forward to utilising it to the best degree.

The music writing camp was organized by Warner Music Africa and Atlantic Records. The studio camp that will run for a week is in Aburi, features artists and producers from all over the world. Dato left Botswana last week on Sunday and has been there since.

She told BG Style that the year 2023 was a great year of her many firsts and she is grateful for this opportunity. She has performed on international stages like DSTV Delicious,Luke Festivsl in Eswatino and Letofe Festival in Lesotho. When her newly released song, ‘The Vow’ was released, she got many reviews and a lot of her followers couldn’t resist the song. Before she knew it, it has trended well and successfully reached the US and Asian market.

“Just late last year, we dropped a single song titled, ‘The vow’ which was distributed through Warner Music Africa, we’ve gotten so much great opportunities since we started working with them and this camp is one of many that are yet to come,” she shared.

Dato is the only artist from Botswana alongside South Africa’s Kamo Mphela, Nkosazana Daughter, Joeboy, Yumbs and Remy Baggins, among others.

She is optimistic that with this camp, she will do better as a Motswana artiste and target penetrating the international music even further. “I am currently working on a project that should be dropped sometime this year. I am therefore glad that I am attending this camp as I will utilise everything I am learning from the camp to help curve my project and make it a world class project,” she said.

She explained that at this camp she gets to work with some of the greatest producers and artists and this means a lot to her. “These are the people I wouldn’t find myself with on a regular day with and so this is a big win for me, because I look up to most of these artists,” she added.

She reiterated that the expectation from this camp is that they should create music of high level at a global scale and she is therefore ready to give her best. The camp runs until January 13th and Dato will therefore return back home on the 15th to continue working on her project.
