BDP specially-elected councillor joins BPP
The Botswana Peoples party (BPP) over the weekend welcomed Gilbert Boikhutso, Specially Elected Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillor at a rally at Gerald Estate in Francistown. The welcoming activity was led by the party president Motlatsi Molapisi.
When addressing the political rally earlier, Molapisi called upon Boikhutso to recruit people into the BPP so that he may contest primary elections and win should he wish to contest. He went on to encourage Boikhutso to challenge the incumbent councillor, Kago Philime who is the sitting councillor.
For his part, Boikhutso expressed gratitude for being welcome into the folds of the BPP. “I join the BPP to increase the chorus of demands for developments in Gerald Estates and other places in Francistown. We need health facilities that operate for 24 hours a day. What we unfortunately have is a situation where the Gerald Estates clinic lights are working for 24 hrs per day, while the drugs are unfortunately unavailable for 24 hours a day,” said Boikhutso, who also decried the quality of roads in Francistown West where he intends to contest a ward.
For his part, upbeat Molapisi described the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) as an enemy of the people, which is not interested in the regime change project the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) is seized with. “We call upon BCP members who want regime change to vote with the UDC at the expense of their party, “appealed Molapisi.
The BCP is an erstwhile group member of the UDC before a fallout in the UDC, which led to the BCP disengaging from the UDC. “We have recently been holding BPP political rallies especially in Francistown and surrounding areas. In the process, we are recruiting new members and reviving our party structures especially in Francistown and its environs and we invite all our members to join the mobilisation effort in preparation for the general elections next year,” said Molapisi, who added that by holding political meetings, he and his charges are building a strong BPP for the UDC.
Molapisi added that soon the coalition will be holding UDC political rallies in earnest as a collective. “In the meantime, you must register new members from the parties that are not affiliates of the UDC at the moment such as the BCP and the BDP,” said the BPP leader.
The area Member of Parliament (MP), Ignatius Moswaane called upon the unemployed to be cognisant of the fact that it is not the fault of witches and wizards that jobs are not coming their way. As far as he is concerned, the ruling BDP that has got no plans for the citizens of this country, is to blame for the high unemployment levels.
Moswaane took time to sing Molapisi’s praises as he called him a true patriot and loyal veteran whose commitment to the struggle should be emulated. “Not only has he served the country well as a loyal opposition leader. As a founder member of all the opposition cooperation efforts such as the Peoples Progressive Front (PPF), the Botswana Alliance Movement (BAM) and the current UDC, Molapisi is a trailblazer,” said Moswaane.
For his part, the chairman of the BPP, Professor Philip Bulawa called upon the party members to be helpful to those who, due to old age or bad health, are not able to get themselves to the registration centres. “Offer them a ride if you can so they may register to vote. Remind them they are unemployed due to the fact that the BDP has got no plans for its people,” said Professor Bulawa, who cannot understand why President Mokgweetsi Masisi decided that bull semen and bulls from America were a priority over more impactful imperatives such as the creation of jobs or even stocking health facilities with drugs to save livelihoods.
