Vote me out and I will leave peacefully without looking back - Masisi
President Mokgweetsi Masisi says if Batswana do not want to vote him back into power as president, he is fine with it, he will pack his bags and go home to concentrate on farming.
Masisi said this at a consultative kgotla meeting in Bobonong recently when reminding Batswana that election year is around the corner and that election registration period begins from the 1st of November until the 30th.
He said Batswana are free to vote anyone they want as president and if it is not him, he will respect whoever is put in power. He will not fight anyone because politics is about winning and losing.
“If you do not vote me, I will go home, you will vote another party and there will be a new president. I will respect them and they will be my president. This is what democracy is all about. Ga o tsena mo ditlhophong o seka wa tsena o le legatlapa, hee wee ke tsieditswe, hee wee ke a lwa, o lwa mmamang? O lwa le mang le gone? Ha ele gore o utlule botlhoko ya ga gago o ye go bokolela, o tla kgaotsa ka gore dikeledi le tsone di a hela,” said Masisi.
He affirmed his desire to return as president in the coming elections but if rejected, he added, he will have no body pains about it, not even to look back like he has some unfinished business.
'I will not even shout at the new president controlling him on what to do, No! No! I will go home, be a farmer and utilize available government projects.
Meanwhile, Masisi's message on elections comes at a time when opposition party president Duma Boko of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) is equally spreading the message that should the ruling party of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) which Masisi leads, 'steal votes again like in 2019,' there will be hell to pay. Boko says they will not fear spilling blood because they do not want a repeat of the 2019 elections.
So focused is Boko that he has even formed what the party labels 'Madibelatlhopho,' and training their people so that they can be on guard during the 2024 elections to ensure that the BDP does not cheat.
