Botswana's legendary jazz musician, Socca Moruakgomo aka 'Mr Rain' to his fans has a case of assault before the police.

Moruakgomo was allegedly involved in a fight with his ex-wife, Yvonne Gomotsang Dennison last week Wednesday in Phakalane.

The duo ended their marriage of two decades in 2021.

Details of the fight are that the former Botswana Defence Force soldier, also a Black Belt Karateka took a trip to South Africa with his son and current girlfriend, without informing his ex-wife.

Sadly, upon return from South Africa Moruakgomo had a minor accident in which only his son sustained minor injuries.

Details availed before this publication are that the worried ex-wife, who's a well-known life coach, Dennison confronted Moruakgomo about the injuries her son had sustained from the car accident.

She allegedly questioned his decision to venture on a trip to South Africa with their 19-year-old son, without informing her.

The ex-wife called an elderly person to mediate in the issue, however the fight escalated and ended with the two before Phakalane police.

The Midweek Sun is in a possession of an audio captured during the fight, in which the jazz maestro and Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) activist is being accused of dishonesty and ‘having slept with all BDP female supporters.’

Still in the audio, Moruakgomo uttered, 'Fokon bastard, I will beat you up...' and then strange sounds can be heard and a third party screaming, begging the two to stop fighting and alerting them that she is calling the police.

Still in the audio, the ex-wife also addresses Moruakgomo, by his first name 'Socca,' and asks him if he still assaults her after their divorce.

Dennison accused Moruakgomo of having abused her during their 20-year-old marriage.

'Their fight centred on the children, the ex-wife does not want the current girlfriend to bond with the children,' an eye-witness that was called to mediate in the issue regarding the trip to South Africa, said.

When reached for comment, Moruakgomo's ex-wife Dennison told this publication that she is still nursing fresh injuries from the fight she had with her ex-husband, as he had kicked her on the stomach thereby damaging her bladder.

She added that she has a medical report to prove the injuries. She disclosed that Moruakgomo’s current girlfriend has always been there during their failed marriage.

Without disclosing further details, Dennison said she had every right to be informed about decisions involving her children.

The case is still before the police and yet to be heard in court. She worried that their case is being handled by a special constable, who's almost her son's age and is easily intimidated by Moruakgomo.

Asked about the incident, the Jazz star and Black Belt Karateka, Moruakgomo, did not go into details, but told The Midweek Sun that he had a family misunderstanding, which he believes will be sorted out by family members.

'It is not something I would talk about in newspapers, because it is basically a family misunderstanding,' Moruakgomo said.

Confirming the feud between Moruakgomo and ex-wife, Station Commander for Phakalane police, Maemo Victor Leshiba said the case is still under investigation.

Leshiba said they received a report on the 6th September from a certain woman about allegations of assault by ex-husband. She complained about the accident that involved her son along Zeerust road.

'The two were called to a certain yard in Phakalane to resolve their matter in a civil way, they fought during the mediation meeting,' Leshiba said.
