Mabula hosts first solo art exhibition
Busi Mabula, a local impressionist artist will host her first solo art exhibition to showcase her work and enthuse art lovers.
For the most part of her art career, as an impressionist artist, she focused on contemporary art. She told Vibe that she is however not limiting herself to contemporary art, but wishes to express herself in any form of art to put Botswana on the map.
She is of the view that the art market in Botswana is currently very slow compared to other parts of the world. So through her red carpet art exhibition, she will be displaying her different artworks which will also be available for purchase.
“As an artist, I feel somewhat responsible to aid change in my country and educate the public on the power of art and using it to shift the culture, change narrative and challenge the status quo because the art market in Botswana has been proven to be viable,” shared Mabula.
She reiterated that art is very advanced in other countries including in neighboring South Africa, because the craft is taken seriously there. “I think there is so much we can learn from SA on how positively they view art and support their local artists. We just need a mindset change to prove that the future of art in Botswana is bright but only granted if we advocate for it more bodly and passionately,” she said.
The exhibition is expected to take place on the September 9, 2023 at Black, Mogobe Plaza. It will kickstart at 1400hrs. “The aim is to introduce me as a painter to the public, so that they get to know who I am, what I do, and where I’m going with my career and share my offering to the world on what I do and how I want a better place for art creativity in Botswana,” explained Mabula.
Most of her clients have been people who were touring Botswana and this has convinced her that art and tourism go hand in hand. “Tourists view art as souvenir, as a reminder of Botswana and their visit, so I believe that art is a way to showcase our country, and a way to preserve culture and share our beauty landscapes of course,” she said.
Attendees to the event are urged to dress elegantly to suit the red carpet affair.
