Cooper linked PSL club
Gaborone United's decorated midfielder, Mothusi Cooper is linked with the newly promoted DSTV premiership side, Cape Town Spurs Football Club in South Africa, a move allegedly initiated by the club’s Head Coach after he identified him during COSAFA matches.
The details of the transfer remain unknown as concerned parties deny having official interactions with the South Africa side.
However, according to the source, some Cape Town Spurs FC members met with Gaborone United, and the deal is almost done, and he is expected to start next season in South Africa.
GU Communication Officer, Herbert Letsebe said the Club has not received any official offer for Cooper. “We do not know anything at the moment on the matter, we have not received any formal inquiries of the player in particular. His contract has ended,” Letsebe said. He said that he is a good player and they would love to keep him.
Quizzed on the status of Cooper, his agent Bakang Moipone also said he has heard the rumours surrounding his player but he has no idea of the move.
Gaborone United signed Cooper on a 1-year deal after his contract in Morocco came to an end last year, and they now find themselves having to make the toughest decision to release or extend contract of one of their most valuable players.
Sources close to the developments told this publication that some Cape Town Spurs technical team members graced the Orange FA Cup final match between Orapa United and Gaborone United over the weekend in Gaborone, specifically to observe Cooper.
His team, Gaborone United emerged victorious after GU striker, Thatayaone Kgamanyane’s last minute goal, making the Money Machine the first team to win Orange FA Cup for the third time in a row. Cooper went home P50, 000.00 richer, beating his teammate, Mpho Kgaswane and Orapa United striker, Kelvin Bingala to the prize of the Orange FA Cup final match over the weekend.
He has been an influential figure for the ‘REDS’ throughout the tournament, having brought stability to Gaborone United’s midfield throughout the tournament. Cooper played all the matches including the final game where he was very vital in the Red’s defence, stopped most of Orapa United attacks from going through with strong and clean tackles around the box as well as helping the team with counter attacks.
