Tlokweng Land Board continues to clean up its allocation waiting list that now stands at over 65 000, with over 1000 individuals declared ineligible due to factors including multiple applications and some applicants being deceased.

Land Board Chairperson, Elijah Katse says a total of 16 976 associated plots have been allocated in the district, 12 743 being residential, 985 arable fields, 606 small agricultural plots, 345 industrial plots, 318 civic and community and 206 commercial plots. He added that the 60-40 percent presidential directive giving preference to people originating from the village still stands.

Katse noted this week that the Land Board continues to explore new spaces for possible survey and allocation of plots. He said that the current waiting list will need approximately 11 430 hectares of additional land.

Katse said that new residential plot sizes have been reduced from 900sq meters to 500sq meters. This has increased the number of plots being allocated. He said that the land board is looking for new land within the village.

Katse said that there is illegal occupation of land in their arable land. He noted that these self-allocations and self-extensions are done without the permission of the Land Board. An exercise is ongoing to address these issue and they are carrying out patrols in the said areas.

Out of 16 976 different plots allocated in the district, only 4 839 people have come forward to apply for the secure land title. To date only 272 secure land titles have been produced as the system is new and the land board staff are still familiarising themselves with it. Tlokweng Land Board has a target of 400 secure land titles before the end of June 2023.

The Land Board has also increased its efforts to increase revenue collection to fund its planned activities. A total of P3 355 474.78 is the target and P341 672.79 has been collected from 1st of April 2023 to the 9th of June 2023.
