A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stabbing her 27-year-old boyfriend to death with an Okapi knife over a P40 dispute. The fatal incident took place in Goodhope, in Gakhudu ward.

According to Goodhope Police Deputy Station Commander, Assistant Superintendent Vigani Mpindi the couple was arguing over P40, which the victim had given to his girlfriend to keep.

Mpindi said the two went to gamble and the accused used up the P40 but never told the victim about it. Upon enquiring about his money, the woman confessed that she used all of it and an argument ensued.

The couple reportedly walked to the boyfriend's house still quarrelling over the P40. When they arrived, the angry boyfriend could not stop demanding for his money, forcefully telling the woman to pay back the money.

The fed-up woman allegedly used an Okapi knife, stabbed the victim twice, severely injuring him on the chest and neck. He died on the spot.

The police were summoned to the crime scene and already bystanders and a group of card gamblers gathered at the spot, with the victim lying in a pool of blood.

"The victim was later declared dead at Goodhope hospital and the suspect was arrested," Mpindi said.

The suspect has been charged with murder and will appear before Lobatse Magistrate court towards the end of this week. Mpindi also said investigations on the matter are still ongoing.

Questioned about his policing area, Mpindi worried about increasing defilement cases in Goodhope district.
