Jeremiah Mokgethisi (54) is alleged to have sliced open his girlfriend’s neck in Boikarabelo ward, Charles Hill, this past week.

Gantsi Magistrate court heard on Monday morning that Mokgethisi had all along been drinking beer together with his 34-year-old sweetheart in the company of friends when he suddenly turned monster on his lover, nearly sending her to an early grave.

It is not clear what really ticked Mokgethisi off but many were shocked when they saw him pulling out a knife and slicing through the woman’s neck.

Those present at the shebeen during the incident watched in horror as blood gushed out of the woman’s neck, sending many into panic mode.

Fortunately, the woman was timely rushed to the hospital where she is currently recovering.

Sources close to the couple say the duo’s affair is toxic - that they were seen fighting on numerous occasions but never to an extent where the other lands in hospital.

Mokgethisi, who is facing a single count of unlawful wounding has been remanded in custody and will return to court for mention on the 22nd of May 2023.

Charles Hill Station Commander Lefa Kareng said unlawful wounding is one of the most popular crimes in his policing area. He explained that Mokgethisi handed himself to the police.

“Well I am not really sure if he willingly brought himself here or was forced to do so by concerned members of the community because they came with him. However, he was very cooperative,” the police boss said.

Mokgethisi spent the weekend in a holding cell and was arraigned before court this past Monday.

Kareng is worried that members of the community enjoy sipping on adult beverages then once intoxicated, resort to stabbing each other. Blood shedding, he said, happens a lot in shebeens especially among men.
