Kenedy Serero struggling to find love
Kennedy Serero (23), a deaf man who is also gay, finds no reason not to fall in love with other gay men and enjoy his life.
However, he admits having difficulty finding love especially within the deaf community. Seroro who hails from Kanye noticed that he was attracted to boys and had no feelings for girls when he was 16 years old.
He told The Midweek Sun in an interview that he also had strong feelings that he was a girl trapped in a man’s body. “During my teenage years I had feelings for boys and I behaved like a girl around boys,” he said.
He added that his mother had long accepted him as he is and the fact that he dates other men. His journey of coming out of the closet was easy because he does not recall having to announce to his mother. Instead it was his mother who discovered on her own and accepted him as he is.
As if his hearing disability does not disadvantage him enough, he was shocked to learn that among the deaf community, some do not condone his sexuality and find it difficult to accept him as he is.
Meanwhile, Success Capital Founder Dumiso Gatsha explained that in November 2022 they assisted Serero to get hearing aids from audio clinic after he was assaulted at a club in Gaborone.
Gatsha appealed to the public to understand that there are gay deaf people in the community and they deserve to be treated equal.
The youth-led organisation that is based in Tlokweng aims at strengthening and safeguarding human rights, sustainable development and tackling the systemic frameworks that impede youth from thriving in socio-economically complex environments.
