Botswana democratic Party is still banking on the late charismatic and larger-than-life Farayi Boy Bonyongo, the former councillor for Mapoka-Nlapkhwane, to influence the outcome of the ward by-election from the grave

The by-election is scheduled for April 29th. Born in 1953, the deceased Councillor died on February 6th this year. “There is no need for anyone of us to even consider voting someone from the opposition parties in the Mapoka-Nlapkhwane by-election at the end of this month.

“We all loved Bonyongo and it would be an embarrassing negation of his legacy should you vote against his will. He wants you to vote the BDP. I believe you will vote the Botswana Democratic Party without the slightest hesitation.

“Should you forsake Bonyongo’s party by electing an opposition candidate, you will have betrayed him. Do not allow yourself to be deceived or derailed by anything,” former Councillor for Moroka village, Edward Makhumalo appealed.

He was addressing BDP members at the Tati West victory celebration rally in Masunga on Saturday organised by Simon Mavange to thank his constituents for his 2019 election victory.

“It is my belief that you will be celebrating a BDP win on April 29th. If you vote otherwise in the by-election, your conscience will chastise you. Our deceased Councillor Bonyongo will be disappointed because he will be watching you,” Makhumalo suggested to a sombre assemblage of BDP diehards.

Speaking at the same rally, former BDP legislator Botsalo Ntuane called upon voters to vote for the BDP. “Please vote BDP so that Bonyongo may rest in peace. Some of us will be there at the by-election to celebrate with you.”

Also petitioning Bonyongo was BDP veteran and MP for Tonota, Pono Moathodi, who also doubles as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

He told the people that if the party loses the ward to the opposition, Bonyongo will not be happy.

“Dead people are able to see and hear. It is imperative that we win the Mapoka-Nlapkhwane ward by-election for Bonyongo. If we lose that ward, he will turn in his grave and not rest in peace as he should,” Moathodi warned.

The celebration was graced by among others, Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane who was the event’s guest speaker. Tsogwane is also the BDP national chairman.

The party secretary general Kavis Kairo and several dignitaries including former and sitting MPs and Councillors were also in attendance.
