The absentee president! (POTSHOT)

Only a person who is not a resident of Botswana will be shocked by the state of our health care system in general and the public hospitals in particular. The less we talk about the conditions in boarding schools the better. One has just to follow parliamentary deliberations through questions and debates to appreciate the appalling conditions in our hospitals.

Parliamentarians experience these situations first hand and ventilate them in Parliament. Apart from the chronic shortage of drugs, medical theaters are consistently dysfunctional, at laboratories; blood tests can't be done because of the lack of reagents. As if that is not enough hospital laundries are also in a bad state resulting in patients having to use dirty linen. Let us face it; President Mokgweetsi Masisi is one of the most nomadic Presidents on earth if not the only one.

Therefore he has no practical experience about a lot of things that are happening in Botswana. Besides, some of his Ministers are just sleeping on the job. The country is virtually on autopilot. In the five years he has been in power President Masisi has brought the health care system to its knees.
