FATAL BREAK-UP
Christopher Molefi, 37, of Mabalane village in the Kgatleng District was buried this past Sunday after he hanged himself following soured relations between him and his baby mama.
At his funeral in Mabalane, it was said that Molefi had long complained that his relationship with the mother of his child was not pleasant.
The couple is alleged to have constantly argued until last week when he sent his elder brother a message saying that he was tired and has had enough with the relationship.
Mmathubudukwane station commander Mmoloki Mogale confirmed that they have a suicide case at his station.
He told this publication that the case was received as a missing person report on Monday last week.
A text had been sent by the deceased to his brother (43) indicating that Molefi was suicidal.
From the text, it was not clear what the couple had fought over and there was no suggestion that the baby mama wanted out of the relationship or not.
“The message was short and brief, only that he had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend and he saw no reason to continue living. He even told his brother where they should search for his body when looking for him,” Mogale said.
A search party was then dispatched and looked for him all over the Mabalane Hill but could not find him. Night fell and the team decided to continue the search the next day.
The search continued the next day with more members of the community coming to assist the police and the family.
Molefi was eventually found hanging from a tree around 1100hrs and was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Mogale is concerned that men are seemingly finding suicide as an easy way out whenever relationships turn sour.
“This is the second suicide case in one month this year. Another man recently killed himself after assuming he had successfully killed his lover.
“The man strangled the lady and thinking she was dead then killed himself,” he said.
