Precious Mokgwathi, 24, who was an employee at Sefophe Primary School has been strangled to death, and the suspect in the murder case is her boyfriend Modise Keboutule (32) of Sefophe village.

Keboutule allegedly strangled Mokgwathi to death using an electric iron cord in the early hours of Saturday this past weekend at her home in Tumpa ward.

Officer Commanding No 10 District Senior Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane confirmed the matter.

Pulenyane told The Midweek Sun that Mokgwathi’s elder brother came home on Saturday morning to find the key to his sister’s bedroom hanging outside on the lock.

He grew suspicious that something was not right and walked towards the door, when he tried opening it, he realized that it was locked.

“He unlocked the door to find his sister dead inside the house, upon which he informed the police who took the sister to the hospital where she was confirmed dead upon arrival,” Pulenyane said.

The suspect Keboutule was arrested in Rasesa, in the Kgatleng area on Sunday. It is suspected that he fled the scene immediately after killing Mokgwathi.

He was arraigned before Selibe Phikwe Magistrate Lindiwe Makgoro on Tuesday morning on a single count of murder.

The accused was remanded in custody and will be back in court on the 17th April 2023.

According to those close to the matter, Keboutule and Mokgwathi were seen on Friday night enjoying themselves in Sefophe.

It is not clear what then transpired between the two, however, it is alleged that Keboutule suspected that Mokgwathi was cheating on him. Angry at Mokgwathi, he strangled her hard till she collapsed to the ground.

Keboutule is alleged to spend most of his time in Gaborone and was in a distant relationship with Mokgwathi.

In a separate incident a 28-year-old man ran over a four-year-old boy with a car along the Tsetsebjwe-Bobonong road this past Sunday around 1500hrs.

“It is not clear what led to him running over the little boy, investigations are still ongoing. It has been established that the driver was not drunk,” Pulenyane said.
