Girl, 17, raped after night of binge drinking

A 17-year -old girl of Sunset ward in Charles Hill who sneaked out of her mother’s house this past Friday to go drinking with friends returned home with more than she had bargained for.

On her way back home early Saturday morning, the young girl is suspected to have been sexually violated by a 25-year-old man, Jazunda Ktjiova of Boikarabelo ward.

Appearing before Gantsi magistrate court on Monday, it was heard that after a night of binging and possibly still tipsy, the underage girl hitchhiked home with a group of friends and among the group members was Ktjiova.

They caught a ride in one car and with the vehicle owner realising that the group of young people he was dealing with appeared intoxicated, he decided to drop all if them near their homesteads.

When it was Ktjiova’s turn to hop off, he allegedly pulled the 17-year-old out of the car, telling her to go with him.

The driver who was not familiar with who Ktjiova was and what business he had with the girl, then drove off, leaving the duo behind.

The suspected rapist then dragged the girl into his house where he proceeded to defile her. Once satisfied, he allowed the girl to go home.

Charles Hill station commander, Lefa Kareng shared that the girl came to them late in the afternoon to report what had happened earlier that day.

“We are not sure what caused the delay to report but we heard that she did not find her mother home upon arrival so she was forced to wait for her. She probably had some serious explaining to do because her parents were not happy that she sneaked out,” he said, adding that they managed to arrest the suspect on Sunday.

However, Ktjiova was released on bail on Monday morning.
