Root out weakest links - Adv Boko
From the vantage point where he is perched to see everything, Botswana National Front President (BNF), Advocate Duma Boko has called on the party members to focus on the weakest link in the party and its structures.
What Boko has learnt is that there is a terrible weakness in the BNF from long time back to date – and that is, BNF members think the organisation is a debating society.
According to the BNF leader, the members spend most of their time debating, arguing, quarrelling and in most instances over things that are of no significant importance.
“The BNF is not a debating society. You spend most of your time debating, quarrelling, and pointing out each other’s faults. It is everywhere even at central committee level. That is not the BNF.
“This thing within the opposition of always opposing, I hate it. I am not here to oppose anyone in fact they have to oppose me. I do not debate; I am tired of it because I have done it for the longest time.
“I use my time to think strategically and listen and if it is not worth replying I keep quiet. I set the pace, I define issues, I am a path breaker and I push frontiers,” Boko said.
He warned the members against expending their energies on useless things. Boko who was speaking at the launch of the BNF Strategic Plan 2023-2026 in Gaborone told the gathering that they are as strong as their weakest point.
He said what the party should have done a long time ago was to identify its weakest point and address that before it could attend to any other issue.
“When you have a chain, you have to identify the weakest link and rectify the link. In this chain of the BNF and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), you must identify the weakest link and deal with it.
“You cannot focus on your strength or strong link. You have to confront the weakest so that we can build and strengthen the chain otherwise the entire structure will collapse. Even if the weakest link takes a human form, you have to confront it as long as you do not attack such a person,” Boko explained.
Boko who is also the president of the UDC said as a leader one has to do a thorough critical self-inventory and see if the person fits the position of being a leader. In his view, a leader has to be a strategic thinker and operator.
He challenged the BNF members to also identify the weakest links at lower structures of the party. He said one has to qualify to lead in the BNF if one is a strategic thinker because it will help one to drive the growth and policies of the BNF and by extension those of the UDC and government.
“We are taking over power in 2024 and do not make mistake about it. We are ready and it is that simple there is nothing confusing there. The time has arrived for that to happen.
“We have identified challenges and we are ready for them because we have remedies for that, we are going for diagnosis. Trust me when I say we are ready.
Be prepared to take over power and the focus should not be only about taking power but also on how we are going to change the lives of our people. For now, my assignment is to take over power,” Boko said, indicating that currently he has been placed at a different level of strategic point in preparations for the 2024 general election.
He told the members that it is at this vantage point where he is able to see everything. The BNF leader emphasised that everything has been made possible for him by the support he gets from the party and its leadership.
He said the launched strategy will assist the BNF and the UDC in the coming general election.
