Farmers Dance for FMD Victims
Music, farm-style feasting and community spirit will take centre stage at Chasmiru Farm near Lobatse on Saturday, 24 October 2026, when the Cronje family hosts The Farmers Dance, a lively fundraising celebration headlined by Rudo Schwim in support of farmers affected by Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD). Headline performer, Rudo Schwim will lead the entertainment. Organiser, Lomar Du Plessis said the event is designed to bring farmers, families, friends, music lovers, and the wider Botswana community together.
“The main objective is to raise much-needed funds to assist farmers who have been severely affected by Foot-and-Mouth Disease,” said Du Plessis. “Farming is not just a business; it is a way of life. When farmers struggle, the impact extends to their families, employees, surrounding communities, and the agricultural economy.” The event will include live music, farm-style hospitality, food, dancing, children’s entertainment, and a fundraising auction. Auction items include holiday accommodation, hunting packages, agricultural products, gift vouchers, and other donated items.
Food will include a traditional Spit Braai with homemade salads and freshly prepared bread. Food trucks will also be on-site, and Halaal food options will be available while a cash bar will serve refreshments. Free camping facilities will be available for guests who wish to stay overnight. Du Plessis said the organisers hope The Farmers Dance will become an annual community tradition if this year’s event is successful. Weather conditions will be monitored ahead of the event, and any necessary arrangements or changes will be communicated to attendees.
The organisers have also appealed to the Botswana community, businesses, and agricultural organisations to continue donating beyond the event. “We do not want the support to end when the music stops on 24 October,” said Du Plessis. “Our farmers will continue needing help. No donation is too small. Every pula donated can help make a difference.” All fundraising proceeds will go towards assisting farmers affected by Foot-and-Mouth Disease. The organisers thanked everyone who has already donated, sponsored, volunteered, purchased tickets, or supported the initiative.
