Tensions at Dqae Qare Game Farm near Gantsi have been calmed after reports that plans were underway to capture wildlife at the community owned property.
Gantsi District Council Deputy Chairperson and D’kar Councillor, Xikuru Xikuri said community leaders intervened last week after learning that individuals intended to capture animals at the 7,500 hectare farm, which is owned by the D’kar community through the Kuru Development Trust.
The development angered residents, who questioned how such an operation could proceed without clear communication or assurances about how proceeds would benefit the community.
Xikuri said leaders confronted those involved, who insisted the operation was lawful and properly authorised, but agreed to halt activities while the matter is resolved.
The confrontation has exposed divisions within the Trust’s board, with members reportedly taking different positions. Xikuri stressed that transparency is essential, particularly as the Trust undergoes re-registration under new legal regime (Trust Property Control Act, 2025).
Meanwhile, Chopper Worx Botswana issued a statement rejecting allegations of unlawful activity, insisting the operation is conducted under valid permits.
“Such claims are false and are creating unnecessary tension within the community,” the statement reads.
Xikuri urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that authorities are working to protect the interests of the D’kar people.
