Man and daughter die in house fire
A 59-year old woman from Ramotswa faces the devastating task of burying two family members after returning from her daily ‘piece job’ to find her husband and daughter dead in a house fire.
The tragedy struck on Monday morning at Mokopane ward, when the family home was engulfed by flames between 10am and 11am. The victims – a 67 year old man and his 19 year old daughter – were found inside a bedroom, which was burnt beyond recognition.
The woman alerted police, prompting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
Ramotswa Police Station Commander, James Moikotlhai confirmed the incident, noting that the deceased man had been unwell and on medication that made him drowsy, while the young woman was mentally challenged.
“He was sick and on medication which made him sleepy, while the young lady was mentally challenged,” Moikotlhai said.
The deaths have left the family and Ramotswa community in shock, with unanswered questions as investigators work to establish how the fire started and why the victims were unable to escape.
Police have not disclosed whether there were signs of forced entry or other circumstances pointing to foul play.
