A 55-year-old self-employed man from Maologane Ward in Moshupa has been remanded in custody after appearing before Kanye Magistrates' Court on a charge of intimidation involving his girlfriend on Tuesday.

Hudson Keobiditse Sekai appeared before Magistrate Kgakole Mokgokong and pleaded not guilty to a single count of intimidation contrary to Section 234 (1) and (2) of the Penal Code.

The court heard that on June 9, 2026, at Maologane Ward in Moshupa, Sekai allegedly intimidated Dintle Samatlhako through remarks he made to her friend, Mpopo Mogaladi.

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly said in Setswana: 'A re o le emetse lotlhe mo lwapeng ga le sena go phuthega lotlhe o tla bo a lo nyeletsa ka sengwe se se gaufi in a second.'

The charge states that Sekai allegedly suggested that if he came across petrol, he would use it to do something to the group, words which investigators considered threatening in nature.

Prosecutor Sergeant, Lennah Baanyaditse told the court that the complainants remain traumatised by the alleged threats and are still struggling to come to terms with what was said.

She submitted that the victims were left fearing for their safety because they were never certain about the accused person's intentions.

'The victims are still in shock. They did not know what the accused intended to do and continue to fear what could happen,' Baanyaditse told the court.

The prosecution opposed the accused's release, arguing that the seriousness of the allegations and the impact on the complainants warranted his continued detention while investigations and trial preparations continue.

After hearing submissions from both sides, Magistrate Mokgokong ordered that Sekai remain in custody.

The matter was postponed to July 10, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
