What started as a night of drinking and laughter among friends ended in bloodshed after a 27-year-old man was allegedly killed for disturbing his companions in Ramotswa.
Two men, aged 38 and 30, are currently behind bars and appeared before the Extension II Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, facing a murder charge following the shocking death of the young man, who was reportedly beaten and struck with a rock during a late-night altercation.
The deceased was allegedly killed by his own brother and a friend after the trio spent the evening drinking around Ramotswa.
According to information gathered by this publication, the three men had been enjoying themselves before darkness fell.
They later decided to continue the night at the 38-year-old suspect’s girlfriend’s house.
While there, the two accused allegedly agreed to sleep together with their friend in one room and instructed the younger man to leave.
Believing he had gone away, the pair reportedly prepared to sleep, only for chaos to erupt moments later. The deceased allegedly started banging loudly on the door, demanding to be let back inside.
The girlfriend allegedly warned the men that the noise would wake up the elders at the homestead, which angered the accused leading the two men to storm outside and attack the 27-year-old. During the violent confrontation,
the deceased reportedly sustained serious injuries before collapsing to the ground. He later died at the scene. Sources say the young man was smashed on the head with a rock during the assault.
The brutal killing has left elders who were sleeping shocked and struggling to understand how a night of drinking could end in tragedy. Confirming the incident, Superintendent James Moikothai said investigations into the matter are still ongoing. He confirmed that the two suspects appeared before the court on Tuesday in connection with the murder. The Botswana Police Service is continuing investigations into the murder of Veronica Ramhago, whose body was discovered in Magopane Ward, Ramotswa, on June 5, 2025. Despite the (BPS) offering a P50,000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest and possible conviction of the suspect or suspects, no breakthrough has yet been made.
