A consignment of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs worth P14 million from the Government of India is expected to arrive in Botswana this month, India’s High Commissioner Bharath Kumar Kuthati has confirmed.

“The medicine order has been placed and is likely to arrive in May,” Kuthati told The Midweek Sun.

The donation fulfils a pledge made by Indian President Droupadi Murmu during her state visit to Botswana late last year.

The High Commissioner, who will address a press conference tomorrow at India House in Gaborone, described the consignment as “a gesture of goodwill from the friendly people of India to the friendly people of Botswana.”

Beyond the ARV donation, the High Commission of India in Gaborone is mobilising the local Indian community to support Botswana’s health sector through free medical camps, blood drives, and distribution of basic medicines

in remote areas.

The initiative is aimed at complementing government efforts to tackle the health challenges across the country.
