Gumare woman survives attempted murder
Police in Gumare are investigating a case of attempted murder and suicide involving a 35-year-old man who allegedly tried to shoot his 31-year-old former partner over the weekend.
Gumare Station Commander, Superintendent Chenamo Orateng, confirmed that police received a report from the victim detailing the ordeal.
The woman stated that while walking home at around 0800 hours, the suspect approached her in his vehicle, forced her into the car at gunpoint, and threatened to shoot her if she refused.
The suspect allegedly drove the woman to Sehubakgetsi cattle post near Gumare village, whereupon arrival, he ordered her out of the vehicle.
Orateng explained that the suspect then loaded a firearm and attempted to shoot the victim, but missed his target. “He then proceeded to load a second round,” Orateng said.
But instead of shooting the victim, he turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger, Orateng added.
Following the incident, the victim managed to regain strength, got into the vehicle, and drove to the nearest police station, where she reported the matter.
Police rushed to the scene and found the suspect lying in a pool of blood and took him to Gumare Primary Hospital, where he was certified dead.
Orateng said this is the first murder-related case recorded in his policing area since the beginning of the year.
