Job scam kingpin arrested at SSKI Airport
A Zimbabwean national, Evans Sivechere (29), has been remanded in custody after allegedly masterminding an international job scam that swindled at least 11 Batswana job seekers of more than P240,000. Sivechere, the Director of Diamond Migration (Pty) Ltd, was arrested on Sunday 22 November 2025 at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport following intensive investigations by the Botswana Police Service. He appeared before the Village Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly ran a slick scheme between October last year and 23 October 2025, promising desperate job seekers employment opportunities abroad, as well as assistance in processing work permits.
Countries mentioned in the bogus offers include Ireland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Finland, Poland and Greece.
Victims reportedly submitted all the necessary documents and made payments, only to later discover that the promised jobs never existed.
Police say the fraudulent operation was disguised as a legitimate migration and recruitment service.
Investigators have hinted that more charges may be added as investigations continue. Sivechere has been remanded in prison and is scheduled to reappear in court on 1 December 2025.
Meanwhile, the Police have urged the public to exercise extreme caution when engaging migration or recruitment agencies, and to verify legitimacy before making payments.
