Police investigate shocking daylight killing of businessman
Palapye Central Police is on a manhunt for suspects behind the brutal robbery and murder of a 73-year-old businessman.
The incident, which has left the community shocked, occurred last Thursday afternoon.
In an interview with The Midweek Sun, Palapye Central Police Station Commander, Superintendent Tiro Kgang, said the police received a report from a 71-year-old woman around 1 pm, who found the elderly man lying unconscious on the ground.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers rushed the man to Palapye Primary Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that he had died,” Kgang stated.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased had left his home driving a Nissan Navara, which is believed to have been taken by the attackers along with some of his personal belongings.
“The stolen vehicle was found abandoned this past Saturday in Maun,” Kgang said, adding that no arrests have been made yet and investigations are ongoing.
This is the first murder of this nature reported in the Palapye policing area, and police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of the culprits.
“Community cooperation is key in solving this case. Anyone with knowledge or suspicions is urged to contact the nearest police station,” Kgang said.
