Mojadigo rape case dropped, faces defilement charges

A rape case against Goitsekgosi Mojadigo has been withdrawn after the complainant and her mother failed to cooperate with the prosecution.

Mojadigo had been accused of raping a woman on January 8, 2024. The alleged incident reportedly occurred in the presence of another person, who happens to be a complainant in a separate defilement case involving the same accused.

According to information before the court, the complainant declined several times to testify, insisting that she was not raped. Her mother, who was also a listed witness, reportedly showed no interest in pursuing the case.

There are, however, unconfirmed claims that Mojadigo may have influenced the witnesses and offered them money to withdraw their cooperation. The case was presided over by Magistrate Queen Moaga, with Prosecutor Seeletso Ookeditse representing the State.

With the withdrawal, Mojadigo is now left facing four other defilement cases still before the courts. One of those cases is ongoing before the Mochudi Magistrate Court, where the investigating officer is currently testifying.

The prosecution expects to close its case once the officer completes giving evidence. Mojadigo remains on trial for the other charges.
