BOIPUSO FEAST: UDC MP slaughters 12 cows to thank his voters

Are you a resident of Lobatse and still wondering what to do on Independence Day?

Well, perhaps you should look no further than your ward because Member of Parliament (MP) for Lobatse Kamal Jacobs has promised a celebration like no other.

He will slaughter 12 cows for his people. The aim is simply to spread joy and bring life back to the town.

Jacobs said the gesture was a token of appreciation to the people of Lobatse for trusting him with their vote during the general elections in 2024.

“This is just me saying thank you to my people. They put their trust in me by voting me into Parliament, and now I want to give back.

I want to revive the mood we had in 2024 when I won the elections. I chose 12 cows because Lobatse has 12 wards and each one deserves a share of the celebration,” he told this publication on Monday.

Jacobs was motivated after learning that the government’s budget for Independence celebrations in Lobatse was only P5 000, an amount he felt was nowhere near enough to feed and entertain the whole town.

“That money cannot even begin to cover food for everyone, so I decided to go the extra mile for my people,” he said.

The last time Lobatse residents feasted until their stomachs were full was in the 1980s.

“I want to bring that energy back, to create a buzz and awaken this town that has for too long been labelled a sleeping or ghost town,” he added.

The 12 slaughtered cows will be delivered to the wards on 29 September for preparation so that by the morning of the 30th, cooking can begin in earnest. After the feasting, celebrations will continue with a concert featuring local Lobatse artists at Copper Grounds.

“I have already reached agreements with most artists. I will pay them at least P1,500 each as a token of appreciation.

This is about celebrating Lobatse and our independence together. The concert will run until late into the night. I want the town to come alive again. There will be plenty of meat,” Jacobs said.
